You can be anywhere in the world and recognize those melodies. On a recent trip to Brazil, I was walking down the streets of Rio and saw a local pulling out his small jam box and swaying to the sounds of “God Only Knows” from the Beach Boys. And in the critically acclaimed season-ending episode of ABC’s “LOST”, the tune of “Good Vibrations” was used as a password which functioned as a key part in the plot to help release the signal that would help the crew get “rescued”. Some music moves to another realm and defies both time and space. The Beach Boys have achieved a feat that few bands can truly claim – that their music is enjoyed by multiple generations and different cultures all around the world. Even if there is snow outside, turn on a Beach Boys song, and within a few minutes you are looking for your sun tan oil and a waiter to bring you a Pina Colada. Music has the power to unite different cultures and countries, who find common ground through connecting to a song. In a time where the rest of the world is quick to criticize the recent political actions that America has taken, the Beach Boys have come to represent something of the United States that Americans can be proud of. The Beach Boys have been making tight melodies and a unique sound for around 50 years, along the way inspiring a multitude of musicians and surfers, not to mention people who just like to drive with their top down.
What may come as a surprise to some is that the band is still performing live and going strong after all this time. One January evening last year the weather in New York City was nothing short of frigid, but a small group of around 150 people stayed warm through dancing to hits like “Surfin’ USA” and “I Get Around” for the 50th birthday party of an investment executive. One member of the crowd summed up why the event was such a hit by saying “I’m a fan of concerts in general, but it is rare that you can go to one and know every song”. The Beach Boys still keep an active schedule and are available for corporate and private events. With the right booking agency, they can become the surprise hit at any birthday, corporate event, or wedding. Visit Grabow Entertainment Agency, they specialize in private and corporate events. |

That was a great final episode of lost where they used the beach boys tune. I'm pretty stoked for season four coming up. Each season, the writers have managed to find a way to rattle my cage a bit right before the season ends. The first season, I was frustrated that anyone could steal a kid from their father. The second season, I really wondered who "the others" really were and why the heck the writers didn't let us know before.
Now, I'm wondering where the show is going to go from here. It looks like they get off the island, but they had to do some type of cover up to make sure that the rest of the world didn't know what the island was all about. It looks like Kate really doesn't want to go back to the Island (due to the flash forward) and that Jack does for unknown reasons (perhaps he just missed being the leader on an Island as beautiful as Hawaii)? Can't wait to watch it coming up next month. |
